Burgsy’s started back in 2013 with just the two of us - husband and wife - and a tiny burger van on an industrial estate in Whitby. We started small, but people found us, appreciated the home-cooked quality, came back and told their friends. The burger van soon became our first little restaurant in the picturesque Whitby town centre, Burgsy’s gained a wonderfully loyal following and we were voted the second best burger joint in the UK.

Then came York, where we took a big leap and opened a much larger restaurant on Castlegate. It was a busy few years, with a fantastic team and many more tables, and it’s where lots of our York customers first got to know us.

Covid brought its challenges, but Burgsy’s carried on, eventually finding its current home in a beautiful old building in the heart of York. After the scale of Castlegate, we discovered how much we loved having a smaller, cosier restaurant again. It suits us — personal, relaxed and with the chance to really look after the people who come through the door.

 

While Burgsy’s has grown over the years, the things at the heart of it have stayed much the same. We still make our burgers by hand, our sauces and toppings are still made from scratch and we still work with local suppliers wherever we can. Our meat comes from the award winning M & K Butchers in York. Heslington Fresh Foods supplies our fresh produce. Our beautiful brioche buns are baked specially for us at the Cawa Bakery. Even the coffee you drink is roasted in Yorkshire by Baytown Coffee Company in Robin Hood’s Bay. The lovely beers come from York’s local Rudgate Brewery, and the wine - from Betton Wines on the Yorkshire coast. We have been incredibly lucky to have wonderful people working alongside us over the years, and customers who have followed us from one Burgsy’s to the next.

 

Now, more than a decade after we started, it’s just the two of us again — Patryk in the kitchen and Marta out front — opening Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and doing what we’ve always loved doing: making great burgers and welcoming people to Burgsy’s.
